There are a variety of accommodations on the Big Island of Hawaii including oceanfront houses, hotels, resorts, bed and breakfasts and condominiums that are vacation rentals. The Kailua-Kona area is considered the "downtown" area on the West side of the island and has many shops, restaurants and three popular beaches. The South Kohala Coast is north of Kailua-Kona, approximately 25 miles, in a more remote area and offers some shopping and dining. It has the best beaches, including two that are frequently written up in Conde Naste on their top ten list of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Visitors generally spend time in both Kailua-Kona and the South Kohala Coast, as well as visiting the active volcano and Hilo.

Volcano Treehouse
This one-of-a-kind property provides a rare opportunity to experience a living, environmental sculpture designed and crafted by a local artist. This is a genuine tree house, built 20 feet up off the ground (discourages bugs and mold/mildew); integrated into five, living ohia trees and hidden away on four quiet acres of pristine, native Hawaiian rain forest. The treehouse has huge windows and decks all around for spectacular 360-degree nature viewing. Commune with birds and the beauty of nature on a unique skywalk and deck that stretches out into a forest canopy of giant tree ferns. A full kitchen and bath; second-floor loft bedroom with queen-sized bed; and a wood-burning fireplace provide you with all the comforts of home. Ideal for a romantic getaway for two or a private retreat for artists, writers and meditation.
Honu Kai Bed and Breakfast
A plantation style Bed & Breakfast set on a lush tropical 1.3 acre estate. Enjoy mountain and partial ocean views in this private park-like setting, only 10 minutes from Kailua-Kona and the airport. Honu Kai offers a serene, zen-like feel amidst an old growth garden environment ... where you can rejuvenate your senses and feel at one with nature — whether it’s lounging on the expansive lanai deck, hearing the water flowing into the koi pond, enjoying the garden jacuzzi under the Kona stars, or even listening to the occasional rain on the roof to lull you to sleep. Beautiful wedding and reception venue.
